Diploma Bahasa Inggeris Komunikasi Profesional

di UiTM - LG120

(Diploma in English for Professional Communication)

*Hi!
*this entry is entirely intended to be casual reading and reference for everyone

My Instagram, feel free to ask any question: _khairulamri

Thank you!

EDITOR'S NOTE (27/6/2020) : Assalamualaikum everyone :) Thank you so much for reading and supporting my blog. I really really appreciate it! So, couple of quick announcements:

I will update much of the information in this blog since the recent batches of LG120 students will have different syllabus compared to the older batches like mine. So, stay tuned for that! and sorry for the inconveniences, I have been a bit busy :( Oh, and i will be replying to the comments here as well. No worries hehe

EDITOR'S NOTE (21/7/2020) : Assalamualaikum :) Hi again! I just recently finished with all the assignments for my 4th semester yeayy!! I want to say thank you so much for those yang support me and help out with my assignment before. I really appreciate it :D So, here is the update that i promised. (scroll down further for the updates, but if it's your first time here, just scroll like usual)

Which means pelajar first intake lah. The requirement untuk mohon EPC is at least A- untuk bahasa inggeris dalam spm.

-
UPDATE (27/6/2020): Okay, disebabkan good ol Covid-19, some of the information i provided in this section are no longer relevant for the interview, so i am sorry :( However, i have gathered that during the pandemic, the faculty did an online interview. What the interviewee needed to do was: upload a video of themselves for the speaking test (things are pretty much the same for writing test). I don't have the specific instructions for the video, but it's just a heads up for future students should Covid-19 still run rampant (tolong lah tak).

INTERVIEW!

Here is the trick, interview untuk EPC ni boleh dianggap mudah, tapi janganlah overconfident pulak.

  • Ujian Bertulis/Writing Test
Mereka akan sediakan tajuk and it will be either a short response, a summary or something along the line to that particular topic given to you. Masa aku ambil dulu, aku dapat tajuk "An act to prevent fake news" dan aku kena tulis respon aku. Jadi, sediakan pen ye semua. Untuk ujian ni, tak perlu risau. Sama je macam mana jawab test BI masa spm dulu. Ho ho senang buat duit bagi tips macam ni.

  • Ujian Bercakap/Speaking Test
Pastikan keep up to date dengan isu semasa sebab selain daripada introduction, topik memang bebas. That's pretty much it, i guess. Just be confident okay? Lagi sekali, senang aku buat duit bagi tips macam ni.

ANDA DITERIMA!

Alhamdullilah andai kata diterima, itu bermakna kau dah berjaya lepas peringkat interview. Wohoo! So as a fellow student or soon to be fellow student, let's continue in a more casual manner hehe. Btw macam aku cakap tadi lah. Masuk je UiTM, minggu pertama akan ada MDS which is basically a fancy name for orientasi and followed by another 3 weeks of interim weeks before the actual semester start. So kau ada this period of one month yang agak awkward sebab nak cakap belum jd student, dah masuk UiTM. Nak cakap dah jadi student, part one pun belum official lagi.

Those interim weeks aku taknak sentuh sangat sebab it is basically a period dimana kau nak kenal UiTM, nak kenal kampus kau dan nak kenal fakulti/program kau.

Tapi!!

Jeng! Jeng! Jeng!

EPT!!

Apa itu EPT? EPT stands for English Placement Test. EPT ni ujian mendengar and student EPC wajib ambil ye. Kalau nak ambil, kene bayar #ripduitptptn tapi bagi aku worth a shot lah. Sebab kalau lulus EPT ni, kau akan dapat skip a semester worth of one subject. Dan subjek ELC ni akan go through selama 3 semester.

It goes a little like this :

  • part 1 : ELC121
  • part 2 : ELC151
  • part 3 : ELC231

So semester dua nanti kau akan ambil ELC231 and after that kau dah tak ada subjek ELC dah. So kurang lah beban sikit sebagai student tu huhu.

SEMESTER 1 BERMULA!

-

UPDATE (21/7/2020): Hi! So, there is a couple of things that i want to update in this particular part of the blog. One of the big thing is the list of subjects for semester 1.

As of 2019, starting from the fourth batch of EPC students, APB (our faculty), has decided to remodel almost half of their starting syllabus. Some subject are being pushed to later semesters, some are pushed forward to earlier semesters, some got emerged and others are getting remodeled completely. Although i must say, the essence of the programme itself are still pretty much the same.

What it means is that a few bits of information that i have posted before as a reference can be considered as outdated. Therefore, i will post the list of the new subjects here, however, i will still leave the previous version as well because some the subjects remain the same.

Here is the list of the new subject that you will be taking in semester 1.

Critical Reading

Honestly, i cant say much about this one since i'm not so sure about it myself. There were no official subject names that matched this one from the old list, so i cant make comparisons, and for all we know, it could be a new subject entirely. Few of the old subjects that have almost a similar name (and i guess, could have a similar syllabus also) are:

Extensive Reading

Aku boleh cakap subjek ni hampir sama dengan literature in a way. Unlike. literature, Critical Reading mainly focus on the technical aspects of reading and analysing individual components of a text. -basically literature but less poetic.. (Dr. Geraldine, if you're reading this and saya salah, jangan pukul saya hahahaha)
2. Critical Workplace reading (Similar to Extensive reading in a sense, but mainly focus on a more formal output like analysing official advertisement from a company or a poster, statement etc. All the good stuff)

Grammar part 1 & part 2

So, about this one. Everyone's favourite. Grammar ni asalnya bernama "Workplace Profficiency" tapi....

"Cehh fancy betul nama, belajar grammar je pun"
             -Student EPC

"Tak payah lah nama panjang panjang, susah nak taip"
             -Janitor

"Banyak sangatlah kene belajar dalam satu semester"
-Still that one same EPC student

"8/10"
             -IGN

If you guys wanna know more about how the subject looks like before remodelling, just scroll down a bit.

Kenapa grammar ada 2 bahagian ni? Okay, it is mainly because it is a bit tight to fit a lot of theories and syllabus in just one semester time. Furthermore, down the line, you will take the subject "Introduction to Linguistic" and that subject requires a SOLID foundation in grammar, no kidding. Terciduk kau nanti kalau belajar linguistic, tapi grammar kau ke laut.

And before this, after only one semester of grammar, dah kene hadap linguistic. So, the foundation is not solid enough for some students and yeah, aku pun sedikit terciduk jugaklah, not gonna lie hahhaha.

But all jokes aside, i think it is a good move by the faculty, because this way, students will have more time to solidify (tu dia bak hang punya vocab) their foundation before facing the dreaded linguistic.

I think that is all for the update in this section.

Below is the list of subjects before the remodeling and as you can see there are still some of the subjects that remain the same, so you guys can refer to those description ya

-said someone yang malas tulis balik.............

UPDATE ENDS
                                                                                                                                                           -

Now this is the real thing. Dekat sinilah baru ada kuliah, baru tahu belajar apa semua and dah mula ada assignment.

Untuk semester 1, EPC ada 8 total subjects. 5 cores (in which 3 of those are exclusives codes/subjects, only offered to EPC and no other courses) and 3 UiTM compulsory subjects.

Cores
  • ELS101 - Listening in Workplace
  • ALS102 - Pronounciation
  • ALS103 - Literature
  • ELS104 - Workplace Profficiency
  • ELS105 - New Media Language
UiTM Compulsories
  • ELC151
  • CTU101
  • HBU

Kerja Individu 30% - Kerja Kumpulan 70%

Jadi, boleh tengok sendiri just how much this course emphasize on : teamwork, communication, leadership value. Pandai on paper sahaja tak akan bawak kau jauh dalam EPC. Jadi cubalah untuk perbaiki dan improve apa yang patut as you go along. All the best, InsyaAllah.

Sekarang aku cuba untuk breakdown sikit core subjects untuk EPC

ELS101

Subjek ni is all about listening. Dengar macam senang je kan. It's not that hard cuma jangan careless lah dalam class. Kau akan belajar banyak teori pasal mendengar, cara mendengar, nak tarik kesimpulan daripada conversation, nak cari tujuan, bias. Haa kalau nak tahu lebih lanjut, sila ambik EPC ye :p

ALS102

Subjek ni akan ajar kau cara untuk properly pronounce words in english based on british pronounciation.

Kau akan belajar pasal poems structures, literary devices, elements in a story. All that good stuff.

ELS104

Basically just a plain ol grammar. Okay, next...

Kau akan belajar different types of phrases and clauses, syntax etc..

ELS105

New media language ni kau akan belajar pasal bahasa-bahasa yang digunakan dalam new media which means internet lah (Blog, social medias, media sites). Dekat sini dia akan clash sikit dengan element linguistic so kau akan belajar benda macam appropriateness of language used, strengths and weaknesses, tones, how to engage online audience and a lot more.

FINAL PROJECTS! ASSESSMENTS! WEEK 13/14! ALL HELL BREAK LOOSE!

Kalau ada yang belum tahu, for EPC at least for earlier semesters, tak ada final exam...

No.

Zero.

Which means kita dapat sebulan percuma cuti masa musim final exam nanti. Sebab yang lain semua tengah sibuk final exam. Ha kau duduk lah cuti dekat rumah hehe.

Tapi,

It all comes with a price. Carry mark or assessments untuk semester satu is a full blown 100%. Basically they will grade us that way. Based on ongoing assessments throughout the semester.

Kalau kos lain, mereka ada final exam. Jadi kalau carry mark tak bagus sangat, boleh back up dekat final exam. Tapi ni, kalau carry mark kau agak menyedihkan *ques in music bersamamu* that's the end of the road for you bud muahaha. Cehh seronok pulak aku takutkan orang.

Tapi jangan risau, it is still manageable. Untuk ELS105 kau akan buat video untuk iklankan produk and all of it will be done in groups. That is teamwork, communication and leadership. This course brings out all of that from you. Jadi, siapa-siapa yang sebelum ni awkward, malu-malu kucing ke, this is your time to shine bebeh.

Now on to week 13/14.

"Apa istimewa sangat week 13/14 ni?"

"Aren't you a exaggerating things a bit?"

Well, let me tell you. Dalam satu semester, ada 14 minggu kuliah. Maknanya minggu ke-13/14 tu is the end game. The final round, the final stand off, the climax, ha apa lagi kau nak, it's the last fight before final exam and in EPC's case, before completely habis semester 1. Jadi memang akan rasalah stress, anxiety all that good stuff.

Sebabnya banyak kerja dan test yang akan tertumpu dalam tempoh dua minggu tu, Kau akan ada more than 3 roleplay/teater berbeza yang kena perform, banyak test, final projects subjek-subjek lain lagi. So do be prepared toward those end semester weeks.

Hurm this is free advertising, pay me, damn it!

I think that's all from me. I'm just a part 2 student as i'm writing this for you guys as your reference.

Harap-harap sedikit sebanyak dapat membantu :) InsyaAllah

(I'm so sorry if the entry a bit of a mess haha. I have little experience about blogging, so yeah. I hope you do enjoy this entry and do leave a comment below hihi)

EDITOR'S NOTE (19/2/2021): Hi everyone, it's me again ^^ I just want to say that I already finished my diploma and is currently waiting for the upcoming result for my final semester. Tak lama lagi, nak jadi antara alumni batch pertama untuk course EPC ni hehe, tua dah aku.

I'll be checking this blog from time to time, but it's probably faster if you reach out to me via email or Instagram should you have any questions regarding this course or Lendu. Best wishes for the upcoming SPM candidates and fresh graduates interested to take on this course.

FINAL EDITOR'S NOTE (14/5/2021): Assalamualaikum and hello everyone! I hope everyone is doing fine amidst the burning world T.T  As the title suggest, this will be my final edit for this blog. I'm officially an alumni now and I managed to graduate with a Dean's List for my final semester. Alhamdulillah :D

I'm currently working at Maxis and everything is going well so far (jk kelam kabut jugak aku awal2 tu, tapi tak apa kita belajar slow slow hehe). Wish me luck!

That's enough about me bagi siapa2 yang curious which is probably nobody to begin with lol.

So yeah, I will not update this blog further bukan sebab nak lepas tangan or anything.. But if you reach out to my IG or email me, I'll still keep answering your questions to the best of my capability. It's just that any further changes to this course would be too far out of my reach since I'm no longer a student of the course or part of its committee :(

Plus, aku rasa any questions regarding pertukaran syllabus, subjects, format etc  (if there would be any) would be better directed towards the current committee via @epiclendu on Instagram.

That's all from me, folks. It's been a wonderful journey right from the beginning for me :') Wish you guys nothing but the best for your future.

I hope you guys will find home, family and purpose here, as I did when i was there <3 Stay safe!

    1. Yes, you can actually... It all depends on what your goals actually.. For this course, the branch of career are so wide in terms of future career making.. You can be a proofreader, editor, translator and etc.. to answer your question, Yes u can be a teacher but it will be difficult.. you may become a tuisyen or a swasta teacher i can say.. for tesl, you are going to asasi/ foundation uitm.. this will be harder.. bascially is what we Epc student's syllabus will be more detailed and thorough ..well anyway.. u can hmu ,, if u have any question.. 0127030230 aite

    2. Hey.. Yes, you definitely can be a teacher.. I can't really say much since i don't know what tesl's syllabus are like exactly. But i can say that it would be a more challenging quest if you want to tackle tesl rather than epc. With epc, you'll have a much wider area of fields you can get into, opening up a lot of new paths. But of course, everything have pros and cons. If you want to know more in depth about epc, you can contact me or any of its student but i think it's also a good idea if you contact some students from tesl to see their perspectives as well. All the best 🎉

  10. Assalamualaikum, I am a SPM leaver. I just got my result 5 days ago. I got an A minus in English. I want to ask you a few questions.
    Here are the questions.
    1) my English isn't that good, I can't even speak fluently, and my vocabulary is low and there are many essential words that I don't know. I'm only "ok" at writing and maybe listening.
Is it possible for me to take this course or I have to be fairly good at English to enter this course?
    2) and if it's possible for me to enter this course, is it possible for me to improve along the way if I entered this course? I mean my English really really not good maybe there are some 12 years olds who are better than me.
    3) how long is the diploma takes?
    4) any tips on how to improve my English in short period because I really want to enter this course.

A little story about my past.
I went to Tahfiz when I was form 1 and I moved to smk because personal problems. At that time I really bad at English I could not even tell the difference between "stupid" and "stop it". :') yeah I was that bad. I only became interested in English when I was form 2 when a friend of mine made fun of me in English class, I really wanted to prove myself that I can be good at English too but I really hate English class at that time. Not untill I was 15 y/o I started to read manga and watch anime. At first I only read and watch those things with indo subs (there is no Malay sub) and then at the point that there were no chapters and episodes with indo sub,I was forced to watch the new episodes with English subs and there was where my interest in English started. I became a little bit better at English and my English exams marks became better and better from fail to C to b and to A- well I got A- in SPM too. But I can say that my English is tremendously improved since that time.
But I'm still not quite good at English. I don't speak English so often and I know my English is only ok on paper but when I attempt to speak it, I lost my confidence in my English. It's not like I say that I can't speak at all but I'm just not really good. But I really really want to enter this course. What should I do? I'm so afraid because at this point I think I'm only good at English compared to other subjects. But my "good" is not good enough. Please tell me what do you think about my situation? Should I just take a shot or should I just change my mind?

    1. Waalaikumusalam. First of all, congratulation on your spm! I will start by answering your questions ya?

      1) You don't need to be extremely fluent in English to join this course because most of the students that came here didn't start with great proficiency right from the beginning. It is because we learn along the way that we are able to improve ourselves. The first thing you need to always remember is that the objective of speaking (no matter what language) is to get a message through. And in order for you to do that, you don't need to use fancy or attention-grabbing words. Just simple words and vocabulary are enough. As long as it is correct, clear and able to convey your message. It means that yes, it is possible for you to enter this course, insyaallah. Try your best :)
      2) Yes, you will improve and learn a lot along the way, just like i said earlier
      3) EPC takes 2 and a half year (5 semesters)
      4) Try reading and find any difficult words. Look up the meaning and how to use it. Try and revise yourself on basic grammars, and practice talking a lot. You can try it in front of the mirror, or even record yourself speaking in English and analyze what you can improve after watching it.

It is nice to know that story from you. Thank you for sharing :) and ayy i watch anime a lot too lol. I started watching anime online when i was 14 or something and i can tell you that i learn and improved a great deal throughout the years of watching it in english subtitles. It is good that you try something new to improve yourself. Keep doing that and keep exploring more, you will continue to improve. Trust me :)

You can always give it a try. Of course, the biggest hurdle in getting accepted is not the credits, but the interview. The interview itself is nothing to worry about. Keep practicing and believe in yourself. Give it your best shot if you're applying for EPC!

    2. whoa, i didn't expect you to reply. thank you very much for the advice and words of encouragement, and yeah i'll give my best for the interview.

    1) i wanted to become a lecturer, is epc the right path for me or should i take tesl??
    2) if i should take tesl to be a lecturer, can i still become one if i take epc? Because i find that this course is much more fun.
Again, thank you for the information.

    1. Hey there!
      1) If you want to specifically become an educator, TESL is a shorter route and a much more clear cut alternative to EPC. But. shorter route does not mean that it is easy. Those who will take TESL will finish their studies and reach their degrees faster but it is also very hard and risky. Taking a diploma and in this case, EPC is a safer route because all your studies will not be too cramped in such a short time and it'll give you more time to learn and improve yourself.

      2) It really depends on your decision, but what i can say is that EPC is a fun course. Its way of learning is flexible and effective. EPC also provides its students with varieties of different subjects that are quite useful and will make EPC graduates much more marketable.

  15. heyy. can i know most who takes this course male or female? and as i a male. i am a spm graduate and got an A- in bi. not quite good in speaking but im truly love bi as much as i love ma self lol. and can u suggest a few tips as preparation for the interview. well as a male, mostly will watch anime and as u can guess i learn to improve my english through the anime by read the eng sub. just want to know if i ever had chance to take this course.

    1. Hey, I'm sorry for the late reply ya.. Yeah, after 4 batches of students including mine, i can safely conclude that the percentage for male to female students per batch is around 20%/80% respectively. So yeah, usually there'll be a lot more girls than boys.

For the interview preparation, i have received a few words that it'll be an online interview, which is different than any other students before this, including me. But i think that the rubric and marking for the speaking test at least won't be much different.

So first of all, the most important thing is to be clear. That's your main goal. After you're confident that you're clear enough with your points, then try to incorporate big words to grab the attention. Don't talk too much but if not necessary and definitely don't talk less, you'll need to shine but try to not go overboard. Other than thay, stay cool and try to bring the topic of discussion towards something that will give you advantage (learning English through subtitles and suxh). It'll give you advantage.

As far as method for learning, it doesn't matter. In fact, it could even be more effective since you from something you're passionate about. Hey, i learn a lot from watching anime with English sub too. I can say that my English have improved a lot since then. So no worries about it. As long as you're passionate to learn more ✌🏻

    1. Waalaikummusalam Aqila. I am really sorry for the late reply since i have been a bit busy since april. However, i still wish you the best and i do hope you did well on the interview too! As for your social anxiety. I believe you could overcome it if you do your best, practice slowly and don't give up. You will improve overtime even by a small margin even if you don't take this course. I wish you the best moving forward okay? 😊

    1. I am sorry for the late late reply, i have been inactive right from april. I know it's probably too late now, but even the format of the interview are different like you said, i believe some of what i wrote down regarding speaking test could still be applied. Always look to be clear first rather than be fancy and try to smooth out your speech by having good knowledge on what you're talking about and put in some discourse markers in between sentences, so that the idea will be more organised and smooth. Hope that helps and i wish you did well on the interview :)

    1. I guess it depends entirely on the individuals. If you are looking to seek a job directly, i believe a diploma in EPC can be considered a good "card" to use (as reference, you can scroll the comment section for the list of available career path). You can also proceed with your degree and if you choose to do so, there are a lot of aligned faculties (like masscomm and tourism) that are interested in taking a diploma graduate from EPC. And on top of that, EPC' own faculty, APB already offers a wide variety of degree course to be attend.
      Hope this helps 😊

  23. hi, i want to ask you about the ept. is the test too difficult?? i really want to try but im scared because im not too good in english but i want to give it a try. i have googled the examples for the test..but could not find it. mind to share the tips for me? :(

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hello! The EPT test is not terribly difficult, however, we can't be too confident with that as well. EPT is a listening test, and one of the main challenges is the speaker's accent. Sometimes they talk too fast and that could make things very unclear. What I would suggest is to read the questions first, then listen to the audio clip. The rest depends on how well you can capture the details. The questions can be tricky as well, so do be careful. Good luck :D

  30. hi nk tanya, dlm berapa minggu nk tunggu result iv? and sblm masuk course ni, requirements dia kena submit 3sijil pencapaian tertinggi calon(utk ambilan 2020/2021) it means kena ada sijil yg related to english ke? mcm public speaking etc. kalau takde mcm mana eh? auto kena reject ke

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hii. Biasanya result IV akan keluar sebulan lepas IV. Kalau bahagian sijil tu kan, i think just kumpul je any sijil yang ada. Tak kisah lah related to English or not. Anything that would help you make a good impression untuk panel tu.

No worries. All the best for your IV btw :D

So my question is what kind of sijil do we have to bring because according to the website it is said sijil SPM or anything equivalent to it will be needed. But still haven't got my SPM results and I also didn't sit for PT3 because of covid. So what kind of certificate should I bring instead? Should i use my trial results instead?
